What is the General Social Care Council?
The
General Social Care Council was established to draw up codes
of practice for social care workers and employers, to establish
a register of social care workers in England and to regulate
social work training. The General Social Care Council is the
regulatory body for England and each country in the UK - England,
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - have their own social
care regulatory body
Each
of the social care regulatory bodies is responsible for creating
a register of social care workers in their respective country
with the aim of protecting service users, their carers and
the general public. The General Social Care Council is also
responsible for providing Letters of Verification to eligible
internationally qualified social workers on behalf of the
other three regulatory bodies.
